When Anita entered my life in 2002 we instantly connected. Her compassion, generosity of spirit, kindness and empathy radiated from her and we became firm friends. She brought such light and joy into my world and I always felt she 'got' and understood me in a way few people do. Her friendship was, and remains, a gift to me and will always be a guiding influence. I will always cherish happy memories of days out together, of having lunch in the 'Plastic Eden' (the nickname we gave to a cafe we used to frequent during our lunch breaks at UCL), of our in-depth discussions, and of her wisdom and thoughtfulness. Every spring she would notice the budding of the flowers around the grounds of UCL and Russell Square and send me photographs when I wasn't there to view them with her. It was always like Anita to notice the little lives, trying to take root and grow in this sometimes hard and inhospitable world. It was a reflection of her great compassion. I know that she took such care to notice the struggles and challenges others were facing, and to try to help, and that meant being around her gave one hope and optimism. I will always carry Anita in my heart and in my soul, and never forget what she taught me. Thank you, Anita, for being such a special friend!! Always and forever, Chris xxx

Anita wrote this poem when she was 10 years old in 1983. This must be why she wanted to suport the RNLI. The Sea. How many ships have sunk in the sea, how many lives are lost, Yet how many creatures are born each day, under that huge aquarium. I wonder, as I walk along, about the many sea rescues, all the hardships gone through, And ships on troubled waters.
